The Plan
Grampound has a large village hall with extensive attached land, administered on behalf of the village by a charitable trust. It was decided to look at this site as it offers easy access and ample parking to attract both villagers and people passing through on the main road. The trustees quickly indicated their agreement in principle and details of the design have been confirmed, consequently a planning application for siting two portacabins is being submitted. When the shop has been established it is intended to then look for funding for a purpose built cabin type building which will offer larger premises for the, hopefully, expanding village store. It has been decided to incorporate a coffee shop from the outset to provide a meeting place for us all, to broaden and buttress our commercial base and to attract more customers. |
Working together
The Steering Group is working with the Parish Council, who have helped considerably, and with The Plunkett Foundation, which promotes and supports co-operatives and social enterprises in rural communities nationally. The foundation has experience in helping set up village shops and continues to offer invaluable assistance to Grampound. Encouraged also by the increasing number of people coming forward to volunteer to join the Steering Group and to help with shop work and the practical tasks of locating and fitting out the premises, the Steering Group feels that it is now in the right position to take action to make the village store and coffee shop a reality in the near future. |
The Share offer
The share offer was made available to local residents and friends of Grampound from 2nd December 2013 to 28th February 2014 to encourage true community ownership and commitment in an exciting and fulfilling venture which will be a great legacy for the village. Share offer packs were delivered personally to all households in the Parish with an invitation (see below) to attend a special evening at the Heritage Centre which was held on December 6th when people could discuss the plans for the village community store with the Steering Group members and ask all your questions. 250 people have bought shares in the project. |
